A Must-See Winter Attraction in Ontario's Capital City

The spirit of Christmas is something I’ve always loved. It’s the only time of year that no matter where you go, you’re surrounded by a festive and romantic atmosphere. For such a busy time of year, I always find myself feeling the most at peace during the holiday season.

While travelling through Europe, especially Germany and England, my favourite thing to do in the winter months was visit the Christmas markets. So when I found myself back at home one winter, I was thrilled to hear that Toronto was holding it’s very own German-inspired Christmas market.

Located in my favourite area of the city, the Historic Distillery District, the Toronto Christmas Market is an inspiring and magical event.

Strolling around at night, listening to a choir sing Christmas carols, watching the twinkling of the lights strung over-head and decorating the 54′ Christmas tree, smelling the mixed aromas of your favourite street foods and sweet treats and hearing the laughter of the crowd, there’s really nothing more joyous.

Tiny log huts line the old brick streets, each housing local or international artisans selling their unique handcrafted products. You could easily shop for your entire Christmas list at the Toronto Christmas Market as there is really something for everyone. From fudge and shortbread, to artwork and woodwork, to maple syrup, alpaca blankets and handmade gifts, you’re sure to fall in love with it all. And don’t forget to also pop in to all the amazing boutiques and galleries that the Distillery District is known for.

To top off the experience, I’d recommend grabbing a delicious German sausage and pairing it with a traditional Glühwein (mulled wine) and hang out around a fire pit or one of the stylish heating lamps so you can warm up as you take in the beautiful and bustling atmosphere of the Toronto Christmas Market.

This year the Toronto Christmas Market is open from November 18, 2016 until December 22, 2016 so you have lots of time to make a trip to the city and explore the wonders of this Christmas festivity.
